What Is Cosmetic Dentistry?
Cosmetic dentistry is all about improving the overall aesthetics of your teeth. The first step will be to ensure that your teeth and gums are healthy before you can have any cosmetic treatment, and we can do this for you at the dental assessment.
Depending on your exact complain, there may be a number of options that are suitable for your case. Some of these issues may include:
- Tooth discoloring (stains & blemishes)
- Embruasures (the edges of our teeth)
- Chips
- Crowded or uneven teeth
- Silver fillings replacement (amalgam replacement)
- The shapes of your teeth
- Replace missing teeth
Everyone is different and we can often be our own worse critics when looking in a mirror. Our friendly dentists will discuss with you your worries and help to explore the various treatments options that may be suitable for you.
Teeth Whitening
One of our most popular cosmetic treatments is teeth whitening. Results will vary from patient to patient and we will be able to give you an idea on what shade can be achievable for your teeth. Teeth whitening is a safe procedure, when carried out by a dental professional. We will need to examine your teeth and mouth to ensure there are no issues that would cause complications when having the whitening (cavities). We have a passion at creating beautiful smiles and the first step will to discuss this option in more detail at your dental assessment.
Dental Veneers
If you are unhappy and have multiple issues with your teeth, then dental veneers may be an ideal option for you. They can remedy multiple complaints such as the: shade (colour), embrasures, chips, symmetry. Veneers are effectively like false finger nails but for your teeth. We initially need to prepare your teeth (teeth shaving required), and then the veneers are bonded to the surfaces of your teeth. They can be made into different shapes and sizes, giving you that dream smile you deserve. There are different materials that can be used to fabricate these veneers, all with different pros and cons. We are more than happy to explore this option with you at your next dental assessment or sooner, please do not hesitate to call us.
Tooth Recontouring
Sometimes you may have a minor complaint with one of your teeth, that could easily be remedied through recontouring. Through this technique we can repair minor chips, reshape irregular teeth, smooth over rough bits, trim overlapping teeth etc.
The actual procedure is very straightforward and pain free. We often don’t need to administer an anesthetic, as we won’t be touching the sensitive parts of the teeth. This treatment is often used alongside other treatments to give you an overall makeover of your smile, but it can also be completed as a standalone treatment.
Dentures
Missing teeth can occur through the natural ageing process, or it can be down to traumas or accidents. Regardless of how you have lost your teeth, it will still leave you with the same problem of having gaps in your smile. Being unhappy with how your teeth look to other people can be a problem, but nothing draws other peoples attention to your mouth than having gaps. Gaps can be very noticeable, especially if it is one of your front teeth. Leaving a gap can also be very detrimental to your other teeth, as it can cause them be pushed into this space, causing your teeth to appear crooked (as there is no tooth in its place to act as a barrier).
We can make a variety of dentures from partial to full sets. We always believe in natural smiles and will endeavour to create a natural looking smile that blends in with your remaining natural teeth. Function and comfort are also important ingredients when making a denture, and we will work closely with you to ensure we tick these important three boxes.
Dental Implants
Implants are considered the gold standard in tooth replacement as it offers more stability than removable prosthetics. Dental implants are placed at the bone level of your jaw and will be used to anchor in your new tooth/teeth. Again, the visible part of the tooth is made to blend in with your smile and give you the most natural look. At our sister practices, we have an implant dentist who can discuss with you this option in detail, and explore your suitability.
