We would like to welcome back our Practice Manager Michelle after she has spent a recent period in hospital. She has missed all of the patients and staff at the practice and looks forward to catching up with you all.

I was certainly a nervous patient being fitted up for my crown and needing 2 fillings, but both Gurinder and Asia really looked after me. They were such a great little team! Brushing your teeth has been shown to affect your mood positively. The twice-daily brush also maintains the health of your mouth and helps keep diseases like tooth decay and gum disease at bay.

Top tips include

1) Swop to an electric toothbrush – they are so much more effective, and they do not need to cost the earth – there are plenty of great options available for as little as £15 – £20. Best electric toothbrushes have an oscillating and rotating head, a 2-minute timer, and a pressure sensor, all of which are fantastic little features.

Toothpaste

2) Toothpaste – there are lots of options available – if you want advice, our dental hygienist and dentist here at Stourcote can advise – but for example, if you tend for your gums to be a bit inflamed, then one with an antibacterial agent in it might be the one you need

Sensitive Teeth

3) Many people suffer from sensitive teeth; they should choose a de-sensitising toothpaste to help with their symptoms. Drinking lots of coffee, red wine, and smoking can stain our teeth, and using whitening toothpaste can help to combat these stains.

Timing and Angles

4) Timing – Set a timer for 2 minutes to brush your teeth; there’s no need to rush as if you are thorough, it will reduce the build-up of plaque and tartar on your teeth.

5) 45 degrees and a pea-sized amount of toothpaste – if you brush at a 45-degree angle, you will get better results, and if you work your way around your teeth in circular motions, you will loosen off the plaque properly

Interdental Brushing

6) Interdental brushing – this is where we can all make improvements, and by using dental floss and an interdental brush like Tepe’s, we can get a thorough clean done. Ask your dentist or hygienist to recommend the type and sizes of interdental brushes you should use. For example, most interdental brushes are colour-coded depending on size. You may need several different sizes depending on the different-sized gaps in your mouth.
